Jan je absolventem oboru Fine Art na londýnské univerzitě Saint Martin's. Narodil se v Anglii, ale již několik let žije na Vysočině a tvoří v ateliéru v želivském klášteře. Dlouhodobě se zabývá fotografickou kulturou, malbou a možnostmi propojení těchto dvou médií. Z toho důvodu ho lákají také grafické techniky a možnosti tisku, jakožto médium propojující tyto dva světy. Zajímá ho paralela mezi pamětí a reprodukovanou verzí reality, svět informací a jejich recyklaci či entropickým rozkladem.
Pro projekt v ArtMatu vytvořil sérii sedmi leporelových koláží. Kombinace fotografie a koláže společně s originálem vyzdvihuje samotnou strukturu a vytváří osobité dílo, které propojuje hned několik poloh Janovy tvorby. Čtyři výřezy v jednom leporelu zachycují různé detaily a je na divákovi se rozhodnout, jaký k sobě navzájem zaujímají vztah. Existuje zde nějaké pořadí či nikoliv? Je pískový povrch makro nebo mikro model? Jakou roli v naší paměti hraje fotografie? Je to pouhý dokument nebo něco důležitějšího: taktilního? Olej ve vodě nebo zrnko v písku?
Jan is a graduate of Fine Art at Saint Martin's University in London. He was born in England, but has lived in the Vysočina region for several years and works in a studio in the Želiv Monastery. He has long been involved in photographic culture, painting and the possibilities of connecting these two media. For this reason, he is also attracted by graphic techniques and printing possibilities, as a medium that connects these two worlds. He is interested in the parallel between memory and the reproduced version of reality, the world of information and its recycling or entropic decomposition.
He created a series of seven folding collages for the Artmat project. The combination of photography and collage, together with the original, highlights the structure itself and creates a distinctive work that connects several positions of Jan's work. Four motives in one folder capture different details and it is up to the viewer to decide how they relate to each other. Is there an order or not? Is the sand surface a macro or micro model? What role does photography play in our memory? Is it just a documentary or something more important: tactile? Oil in water or a grain in the sand?
